On February 1, 2016, come into effect Agreement No. 001-2014 March 18, 2014, Agreement No. 010-2014 of 14 October 2014 and Agreement No. 008-2015 of June 16, 2015 in relation to the standardization of personal and commercial checks in the Republic of Panama. The new formats are seeking the check does not have elements that hinder digitalisation and ensure proper, adequate and secure processing of personal and business checks in the Panamanian banking system.
Checks issued prior to February 1, 2016 will circulate simultaneously with the checks in the new format until 1 August 2017. From this date the checks that do not meet the standard will not be accepted in any institution bank, as they can not be processed with the new technology and safety measures. To ensure compliance with the agreement will require that checks are requested via Unibank or authorized by the Bank presses.
